Career Discovery and University Planning Programme

Dear Parents,

One of the most important and most challenging stages in a student's education is getting to know themselves well, so they can make the right subject choices (especially at GCSE and A-Level in the UK) and then set their university and career goals.

We want our students to base these decisions on scientific data, personal analysis and professional guidance, not guesswork. With that aim, we're pleased to share the details of our Career Discovery and University Planning Programme below.

You can watch my videos explaining how the process works and the systems we use at the links below.

This programme gives your child a complete roadmap. It starts with understanding themselves, then moves on to finding the careers that suit them best, choosing the right university and course, and preparing for the university application process.

Programme Scope and Stages

Stage 1: Career Discovery Test and Personal Analysis

Your child takes a scientific Career Discovery Test made up of around 15 short tests. It identifies their interests, aptitudes, way of thinking and working style. Each test takes about 5–7 minutes on average.

The analysis measures many of your child's characteristics in detail, including:

  • Introversion / extroversion
  • Time orientation
  • Vocabulary
  • Inductive and sequential reasoning skills
  • Visual memory
  • Numerical computation skills
  • Approach to situations and decision-making style

After the test, the family and student receive three personalised reports totalling around 45 pages.

You can view sample student reports at the links below:

These reports give a detailed picture of your child's strengths, areas for development and potential career directions.

Stage 2: Matching with 615 Careers and Career Targeting

Using the test data, we compare your child's profile with 615 careers from around the world.

This identifies careers that are a:

  • Strong Overall Fit
  • Good Overall Fit

Graphs then show in detail how closely your child's characteristics match each career, such as their:

  • investigative side,
  • social side,
  • leadership skills,
  • analytical thinking.

Your child also receives sector recommendations that suit them, such as education, management, public service, finance and technology.

Stage 3: Access to a Comprehensive Digital Portal

After the career test results, your child and family get access to a comprehensive digital future-planning portal used by many of the world's leading schools.

The portal supports the following:

Exploring Careers in Depth

  • Watch videos of people working in careers that interest your child
  • Look at their typical daily routines
  • See up-to-date salary statistics
  • Check employment rates in the UK

Filtering Universities and Courses

The portal shows which university courses lead to the target career (for example Business, Economics, Accounting or Data Science).

Universities can also be filtered by:

  • England, Scotland or Wales
  • Russell Group
  • QS World University Rankings
  • The Guardian University Guide

Building a Target University List

Based on your child's predicted A-Level grades, we build a strategic university shortlist in three groups:

  • Aspirational (ambitious choices)
  • Solid (realistic choices)
  • Safe (secure choices)

Stage 4: University Application and Preparation

Getting a university offer depends on more than academic results. It also depends on what students do beyond the curriculum and how well they present themselves.

At this stage, your child receives support in the following areas:

Personal Statement Preparation

The Personal Statement plays a key role in UK university applications, and the portal gives detailed support for writing it.

Using the personalised phrases from the test results and the Discussion Guide, your child can build a framework for a statement that shows their strengths.

The portal also includes:

  • sample personal statements,
  • interview tips,
  • recommended TED Talks,
  • application strategies.

Important Note:

The Personal Statement must be your child's own original work. We will not write the statement for them. We will give strategic guidance and help with structure during our Zoom sessions.

Super-Curricular Tracking

The portal records your child's:

  • wider reading,
  • online courses,
  • projects,
  • activities beyond the curriculum.

Throughout the process, the system tracks your child's progress and sets tasks and suggestions, so they reach their university application with a strong profile.

One-to-One Guidance (2 Zoom Sessions)

The programme includes two one-to-one Zoom sessions with the parent and student together.

In these sessions we will:

  • go through the career test results in detail,
  • show how to use the digital portal effectively,
  • review university and course choices,
  • give strategic guidance tailored to your child's goals.
